La Fortuna Waterfall
A spectacular 75-meter drop nestled at the base of the dormant Chato Volcano.
Visitor Information & Logistics
Located about 5.5 kilometers outside the scenic town of La Fortuna and near the iconic Arenal Volcano, this stunning natural attraction is fed by the Arenal River. The river flows through the dense, pristine rainforest of the Arenal Mountain range until it plunges over a massive cliff, forming this world-renowned waterfall.
The hike down to the river canyon is short but arduous, consisting of a well-maintained staircase carved directly into the hillside. Guests are welcome and highly encouraged to swim in the refreshing stream and small rapids right below the falls, with a professional lifeguard permanently on duty for maximum safety.
